10 Ways to Beat Blue Monday

1. Plan something fun for the week ahead

We all deserve something to look forward to. It could be as simple as a dinner with friends or a movie night at home. Having something to look forward to can make a huge difference to your mood going into a new week.

2. Get some exercise

Whether it's a gym session, a yoga class, or a brisk walk outside, physical activity is a proven mood booster. And if you're not up for much movement, even small movements in bed make a huge difference. Start by clenching and unclenching muscles in your toes, and moving up gradually to your head.

3. Practice gratitude

Take a few minutes each morning to think about the things you're grateful for in your life. It's a simple but powerful way to shift your perspective and start your day on a positive note.

4. Don't make rash spending decisions

Jan is notoriously difficult for money. And with short days, and a long gap between pay checks it's easy to fall into the trap of retail therapy. But there's no harm in waiting a couple of days to make purchases and avoid spending you later regret.

5. Get enough sleep

A good night's sleep is essential for good mental and physical health. Without a good nights sleep it's harder to stay motivated in every other aspect of life. Try putting your phone away an hour before bed and getting acquainted with a new book.

6. Practice mindfulness

Mindfulness is the practice of being present and fully engaged in the current moment, rather than dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. If you're new to it try an app such as Calm or Headspace for guided meditations.

7. Treat yourself

Choose something you love, like your favourite meal or film and put some time aside to truly enjoy and appreciate it. We personally love going for a run, followed by a pamper.

8. Reach out to your friends and family

Send love to your friends and family as often as you can. Whether it's a hype message, meme or simply a reminder you're thinking of them, it will go a long way in making their day.

9. Listen to music

Music has been shown to have a positive impact on mood and mental health. So crank up your favourite tunes and have a dance.

10. Seek help if needed

If you're struggling with your mental health, don't hesitate to seek help. There are many different types of professional help available, such as counselling, therapy, and medication.

And, if you need urgent help in a crisis, the following resources are available:
