5 Easy Ways To Get Shiny Hair At Home

Ever looked at someone's hair and felt like you could see your own reflection in their shine? Well now it's time for other people to feel that way about your hair.

'Glass hair' and 'liquid hair' have been taking the TikTok world by storm, but is it possible to experience stellar results without a pricy visit to your hairdresser?

Absolutely.

First off we need to understand why our might be looking dull or flat. More often that not dull hair is caused by damage to our hair's texture. This can be caused by hard water, pollution or heat damage, and affects the hair's ability to reflect light.

So read on if you're looking for at easy home treatments to combat dull, lifeless hair.

1. Weekly scalp oil

Oiling your scalp provides hydration to malnourished strands and scalps. A weekly scalp treatment of your favourite oil massaged into your scalp stimulates blood flow and encourages a healthy environment for hair growth. When massaged in with a scalp massager you'll also get the benefits of gentle scalp exfoliation.

You might need to try a few different oils to find the perfect partner for your hair and scalp, but many oils you can find in your kitchen work perfectly. Some oils we recommend experimenting with: olive, coconut, avocado and sunflower.

2. Apple cider vinegar rinse

Apple cider vinegar is a superstar player when it comes to hair thanks to its antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. Not only does it promote a healthy scalp, it also: detangles, strengthens and softens strands, fights frizz and can help reduce hair loss.

Apple cider vinegar rinse how to:

  1. Shampoo your hair and rinse as normal
  2. Mix one part raw apple cider vinegar to five parts water. You'll find this easiest to do in a spray bottle (one one of our pump bottles for life)
  3. Work the mix into your scalp (be careful not to get it in your eyes!) and ends
  4. Let the mixture sit on your hair for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Rinse the apple cider vinegar fully from your hair
  6. Follow with your favourite conditioner

But will I smell like vinegar? No! Luckily for you (and everyone around you), the smell won't remain on dry hair. All you'll be left with is healthy, shiny strands.

3. Rice water rinse

Rice water, the TikTok trend that took the world by storm in 2021. This uber-sustainable hair treat is the perfect remedy for damaged or dull hair.

Rice water can make hair stronger and shinier, and the protein in the water penetrates strands to repair them from the inside out.

To get the magical benefits we recommend saving the water when you're cooking rice, put it into a spray or pump bottle, which can live in the fridge for up to a week. Shampoo your hair as normal and then towel dry your locks. massage your rice water into your hair and scalp and cover with a shower cap or turban. Leave on for at least 20 minutes and then rinse out.

Depending on your hair you may not need to condition, we recommend having a play and seeing what works for you.

4. Condition with a bamboo comb

Bamboo is naturally antibacterial, antifungal and odour resistant which helps to keep your hair and scalp happy. It also redistributes your hair's natural oils better, and reduces frizz and static that can be caused by plastic combs.

5. Rinse hair with cool water, not hot

Hot showers are our toxic trait. But they're not making your hair happy. Hot water is effective when it comes to dissolving dirt and product build-up. It also opens up your pores, giving your shampoo the space it needs to unclog your follicles efficiently.

But hot water is also harsh on your strands. It can break the keratin and lipid bonds, causing breakage and extra frizz.

Cold water, however, seals strands and helps hair to retain it's natural oils and sebum... leaving you smooth and frizz-free.
